Happy birthday, Dad! I don't think Dad actually knows about the existence of this site or else he would probably disown me for telling the world about his passion for Peter Pan. Looking forward to a nice, bloody steak @ Capital Grille tonight, for which Pops will pick up the bill, I'm sure. I am the best daughter. Also, happy belated Groundhog Day, which is one of the best holidays on the calendar as well as one of the best movies of all time. Bold statement, I know, but I stand behind it.
They have really been making me earn my dills here, but I think everyone's work life is a bit O.O.C. (out of control -- TLA) and no one really wants to hear about crazy sellers, cancelled appointments or my summons for jury duty, so....
Last night we trekked it up to the Laud to see Steel Pulse play at Culture Room. (Official website: http://www.steel-pulse.com/) The best part of the drive up was Colin asking, with complete seriousness, how far we were from the stadium...right. If by "stadium" he meant small, smoked-out venue in a strip mall, then we were pretty close. One of the sketchier moments of the night (which I can write about in edited form here) was parking behind a pawn shop, in an alley with multiple "No Trespassing on Pain of Death" and "Rabid Rottweilers in Your Immediate Future" signs, watching others drink beers (I was DD -- proud?), use the very public facilities (thanks for the show, fellas), while waiting to see some 70+ old Jamaican dudes play reggae in a strip mall rife with liquor stores and, as I've already mentioned, pawn shops. I thought reggae folk were supposed to be superlaidback rasta types, but a large number of these were more than pissy when I tried to squeeze all 5-feet, 4-inches of Jill in front of their towering oak-like (sweaty) masses. Relax, mon. Eventually, I just gave up & made friends with the bartender (only for the H20, promise).
I know from the initial description it sounds a bit dodgy, but it was actually a pretty damned good time. Poulos, you're the best. Good company, good tunes & the best "No-Tow" party of all time to cap off the night. Sorry to Soren & Jordan who couldn't celebrate the no-tow since they, unfortunately, did get towed. Looks like all the best spots behind the pawn shop were taken.
After much soul-searching, the Blondes will be happy to know that I am def down for the trip to NYC at the end of Feb. Katrid, it was your "Thank You" note that pushed me over the edge (no, thank you!). Besides, I think I need some new NYC pics for the picture pages. Or any new pics, for that matter. Half birthday is Feb. 7 and would really love a digital camera. Just throwing that out there.
If anyone saw "Lost" last night, please fill me in. Of course had to get the frustrating text msg from Spey hinting as to what I had missed. My obsession runs deep. Not feeling too inspired re: justjill today as work has sapped my soul, energy & creativity. And apparently wit, too. Now World's Best Daughter must run to Merrick to buy present....
